Türkiye’s green transition is a new investment opportunity
Türkiye’s strong industrial base and renewable energy potential give it clear advantages in attracting clean industrial investment.
The country’s emerging pipeline of clean, commercial-scale projects targeting the production of deeply decarbonised industrial commodities can move towards investment if the right financing and policy conditions are put in place.
Senior government, industry and finance leaders discussed what it will take to make that happen at a workshop in Ankara.

The workshop’s findings will be combined with research by Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in a Türkiye Insights Briefing, planned for publication at COP31 in Antalya. The briefing will set out the barriers facing clean industrial projects in Türkiye, the financing conditions they need and practical steps to accelerate investment.
Faustine Delasalle, CEO of Mission Possible Partnership and Executive Director of the Industrial Transition Accelerator, said: “Countries such as Türkiye, with strong industrial foundations and significant renewable energy potential, have major competitive advantages in attracting energy-intensive industrial investment. We believe that the currently limited number of deep-decarbonisation projects in Türkiye could grow rapidly if the right investment conditions are put in place.”
We see the green transition not as a cost, but as an opportunity for new investment, technology development, market diversification and sustainable growth. We consider the ITA Türkiye Programme…between our Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Industrial Transition Accelerator, a strategic collaboration that will safeguard the competitiveness of our industry, open up new areas for investment and strengthen Türkiye’s position in global value chains. Our aim is not merely to increase the number of projects supported, but to achieve lasting outcomes that facilitate investment decisions and mobilise the private sector.
— Muhammet Kasım Gönüllü
Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology
Türkiye workshop | Ankara 2026
In a keynote address titled “Türkiye’s Clean Industrial Opportunity”, Muhammet Kasım Gönüllü, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, told workshop participants that the clean transition of the steel, cement, aluminium and fertiliser sectors would require an estimated USD 71 bn of investment, and that he saw this as an opportunity for growth.
Analysis – undertaken by ITA and delivery partner Boston Consulting Group – presented in the workshop points to four conditions that clean industrial projects need to move forward: demand, an appropriate regulatory framework, strong value chains and infrastructure.
